Frequently Asked Questions

What is Cub Scouting?
Since 1930, the Boy Scouts of America has helped youth through Cub Scouting. It is a year-round family program designed for boys & girls who are in kindergarten through fifth grade (or 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 years of age). Parents, leaders, and organizations work together to achieve the purposes of Cub Scouting. Currently, Cub Scouting is the largest of the BSA's three traditional membership divisions. (The others are Scouts BSA and Venturing). More information here.

What Are the Requirements to Join Cub Scouts?
Lion Scouts (kindergarten), Tiger Scouts (entering first grade or age 7), Cub Scouts (entering second or third grade, or age 8 or 9), Webelos Scouts (entering fourth or fifth grade, or age 10).

What Does Cub Scouting Offer My Child?
Cub Scouting offers fun and challenging activities that promote character development and physical fitness. Service projects, ceremonies, games, and other activities guide boys and girls through the core values and give them a sense of personal achievement. Through positive peer group interaction and parental guidance, scouts also learn honesty, bravery, and respect.

How Does Participation in Cub Scouting Affect Participation in Other Activities?
The Cub Scout program is designed to compliment many other extracurricular activities. Typical time commitment is two to three Den meetings and one Pack meeting per month.

(optional). Other costs include uniforms and minimal fees for some events and outings (i.e. campouts, Summer Camp, sporting events, etc.). However, most of these events costs can be offset by fundraising (see fundraising section for further details).

Where Can I Buy Uniforms and Related Scouting Gear?
Uniforms may be purchased at the Bobby Lyle Billy Gamble Scout Shop in Fairview, ordered online at ScoutShop.org, or at the Dallas Scout Shop in the Circle Ten Office in Dallas. Other area Scouting shops can be searched here. For more details on the Cub Scout uniform visit this page.

When Do We Meet
Our Pack typically meets three to four Tuesday evenings a month in the cafeteria at Sonntag Elementary School (Map). At these meetings we provide a fun environment where the scouts make progress towards earning their ranks and receive their progress awards at the Pack meetings. In addition, Den and Pack events (such as campouts, Pinewood Derby and similar) are on the schedule about every 4 to 6 weeks throughout the year. Dens meet two or three evenings a month where scouts do activities toward required Adventures. Den Leaders organize the den meetings. Pack meetings are one evening a month, and feature award recognition and fun activities and these are usually planned by the Cubmaster.
