Are Cub Scouts the same as Boy Scouts?
Cub Scouting is a program of the Boy Scouts of America—so in that sense, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts are both members of the same organization. However, they are entirely different programs: Cub Scouting is a family-oriented program designed specifically to address the needs of younger boys.
How old (or young) can a boy be to join Cub Scouts?
Cub Scouting is for boys in the kindergarten through fifth grades, or 5 to 10 years of age. Boys who are older than 10, or who have completed the fifth grade, can no longer join Cub Scouting, but they may be eligible to join the Boy Scouting or Venturing program.
How can I become an adult volunteer in Cub Scouts?
Express your interest to the pack leaders—the Cubmaster, chartered organization representative, or members of the unit committee. While there's no guarantee that a specific role or position will be available—and there may be a selection process among several candidates even if the position is currently vacant—there is usually some way in which you can contribute, and most units are glad for any offer of help.
How often do cub scouts meet?
It depends on the pack, but Pack 417 usually meets for den meetings twice a month, and pack meetings once a month. A set schedule is accessible to all families to see upcoming events and reminders are sent via email to remind families of such events two days before they happen.
What is a den?
A den is your scouts age group. Lions (5-6) Tigers (6-7) Wolves (7-8) Bears (8-9) Webelos I (9-10) and Webelos (10-11)
What is a pack?
A pack is all den's combined into one group.
What are den meetings?
Den meetings are meetings where each individual den (lions, tigers, wolves, bears, webelos I or webelos II) meets to work on achievements that help them advance to the next level.
May parents attend den meetings?
It depends on the pack, but Pack 417 encourages parent involvement in all activities. Siblings and extended family are welcome at Pack meetings to witness scouts receiving awards for their achievements. Cub Scouts is family friendly.
What are pack meetings?
Pack meetings consists of all the dens, leaders, parents, and sibilings getting together to witness the awards earned by individual scouts. After awards are given, the pack play games, do crafts, and enjoy a snack together.
